Lead Routing Design Engineer

The Lead Routing Design Engineer will be responsible for the development and integration of harnessing on our ultra-class hydrogen/battery powered haul truck. They will be working with Systems Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, & Electrical Engineers to bring together a complex vehicle system in our CAD/CAE and PLM software tools. They will lead the rest of the routing design team in the organization and integration of harnesses and support structure throughout the vehicle.

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and configuration of the harness system on the haul truck 
  • Drive integration collaboration by identifying holistic solutions to the mechanical and electrical designs
  • Work with the Vehicle Lead to anticipate dependencies, highlight risks, and ensure the design is feasible
  • Lead the routing engineers to create and integrate the CAD elements and assemblies into the top-level vehicle design
  • Maintain the configuration and release cadence in support of key milestones and branches of design options
  • Harness System Drawing/ Assembly creation and maintenance
  • Guide the engineering team in proper design practices
  • Work closely with the Principal Interconnect Engineer to implement best practices and define what inputs are needed for your team’s success
  • Responsible for successful physical installation of the routed system on the truck
  • Mentor others in component selection for use in power distribution, communication, strain relief, and support brackets

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or related engineering discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3+ years of experience in design of mechanical systems and design lifecycles
  • 3+ years CAD modeling experience
  • 1+ years of experience in maintaining configuration and integrating the work of teams of design engineers
  • 1+ year in field experience
  • 1+ year in manufacturing experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience in interpreting electrical schematic data into system knowledge
  • 1+ years in interconnect, wiring, or harnessing experience
  • 1+ years working with high voltage systems
  • Experience in full life cycle design support from concept to prototype to production
  • CAD/CAE experience in NX/TeamCenter is a strong plus  
  • Hands-on experience with building and troubleshooting harness assemblies

Additional Requirements

  • Occasional travel within the United States and internationally to represent First Mode to its customers, vendors, and partners and to coordinate with the FM Team in Australia 

Location

  • This position will be located at First Mode’s headquarters in Seattle, WA and will be required to work in office >60% of working hours

 

TOTAL REWARDS

Base Salary Range: $120,000 - $178,500

      Lead Routing Design Engineer II: $120,000 - $151,500

      Lead Routing Design Engineer, Senior I: $141,000 - $178,500
