This Mechanical Enclosures Engineer will be responsible for the design and build of our electrical enclosures for our hydrogen-battery powered ultra-class haul truck. They will work with Systems Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, & Electrical Engineers to bring together a complex vehicle system in our CAD/CAE and PLM software tools. They will be responsible for the mechanical design, build and integration of the electrical enclosures. They will work as an example to other engineers on the team and in the department. 

Position Responsibilities

  • Responsible for physical enclosure development including system design/analysis, CAD and drawing creation, build, test, and vehicle integration 
  • Represent the mechanical design team during the architectural definition and scoping phases of the project  
  • Drive collaboration by identifying holistic solutions to the mechanical and electrical designs 
  • Work with the electrical lead, enclosures lead, and principal interconnect engineer to anticipate dependencies, highlight risks, and ensure the design is feasible
  • Work with manufacturing and supply chain to ensure enclosure products are feasible at scale
  • Prototype mechanical and electrical solutions to validate design
  • Build and lead testbeds to qualify design and identify risks 

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or related engineering discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience 
  • 2+ years of overall industry experience 
  • 2+ years of experience with CAD software packages and mechanical design 
  • 2+ years of experience in life-cycle development of electromechanical hardware within a complex system or product 
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with hardware design, prototyping, fabrication, and assembly
  • 2+ years of experience in GD&T application on design drawings

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in static, dynamic, and/or thermal analysis of mechanical systems 
  • Proficiency in NX CAD and TeamCenter tools or other PDM/PLM systems 
  • Experience with routing and electromechanical integration, particularly with high-volt systems
  • Experience in any of FEMAP, NX 3D Structures, MATLAB, LabVIEW, Python, or wiki documentation 
  • Experience working with technicians to build and test complex systems
  • A knack for thinking about how the parts of a system work together
  • Ability to write and speak clearly about technical subject matter
  • Flexibility and responsiveness in a fast-paced, dynamic, small team environment 

Additional Requirements

  • Occasional travel within the United States and internationally to represent First Mode to its customers, vendors, and partners and to coordinate with the FM Team in Australia

Location

  • This position will be located at First Mode’s headquarters in Seattle, WA and will be required to work in office >60% of working hours

 

TOTAL REWARDS

Base Salary Range: $106,500 - $151,500

      Mechanical Enclosures Engineer I: $106,500 - $134,500

      Mechanical Enclosures Engineer II: $120,000 - $151,500
