Senior Data Engineer

To meet the aim of decarbonising the heavy haulage industry First Mode is looking for talented Data Engineers to help deliver a suite of Data and Insights products to be used both by First Mode internally, as well as our customers.

These Data and Insights products include, but are not limited to:

  • Acquiring data in real-time from First Mode power plants and associated Hydrogen production/storage systems
  • Analysing both real-time and batch data in a computationally constrained Mine Site, providing insights to operators in near-real time
  • Acquisition of data from First Mode internal systems, including, manufacturing and engineering test beds to support the life-of-asset understanding of our products

Position Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical lead within our data and insights team, owning delivery end-to-end throughout the product life cycle, collaborating with other software engineers towards team objectives.

  • Mentor team members in engineering best practices via coaching and design/code review

  • Drive operational excellence by delivering high quality software products via automated testing and tooling

  • Work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment

  • Represent the team as a stakeholder within a multi-disciplinary team, from system formulation through design, build and test

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience in some of the following programming languages: Python, SQL, Java

  • Experience developing data pipelines using common tools such as: DBT, Airflow, AWS Glue, Databricks

  • Experience with data modelling for different storage types (relational, document, columnar)

  • Experience developing streaming-based analytics services using tools such as Flink, Spark, Storm

  • Experience with one or more of the following database technologies: Postgres (or other SQL database), Redshift, Snowflake

  • Experience with common Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CDK, CloudFormation)

  • Experience developing commercial software in an Agile environment

  • A demonstrated ability to work with engineers of different disciplines to meet a shared objective

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience delivering a B2B SaaS software product 

  • Demonstrated experience with Data Governance and Data Management processes

  • Experience with common cybersecurity processes/methodologies

  • Experience delivering data platforms in a mining environment

  • This position will be located at First Mode’s office in Perth, WA
