First mode are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer that will support Systems Engineering and perform activities for the digital integration team across the full nuGen programme, from design analysis and requirements definition through to operational test and acceptance activity. The Systems Engineer will work closely with a wide range of technical and non-technical stakeholders in the First Mode Programmes and Products teams, and is expected to use their skills and experience to understand user needs, requirements, and trade-offs, support documentation and development of appropriate solutions, and support the tests, acceptance, and transition to operation of the nuGen system. The role will span the full programme lifecycle at multiple sites across the world, and will be central to successful programme definition and execution.

The ideal candidate will have substantial previous experience of Systems Engineering in a complex and operationally-critical environment, with stakeholders that range from development and infrastructure teams to operational users and customer representatives. The role will require a broad range of technical, non-technical, and interpersonal skills, along with a willingness to learn and understand new domains and technologies.

Position Responsibilities

The Systems Engineer will work with the wider the First Mode Systems Engineering organisation to share their experience, grow the Systems Engineering discipline in the First Mode organisation, and identify opportunities to improve processes, products, and team performance.

Basic Qualifications

  • Significant experience across the whole Systems Engineering lifecycle from concept to user acceptance, in a complex, operationally critical domain.
  • Experience with system design, and an ability to take a ‘full system’ view that balances the needs of multiple teams and stakeholders to optimise the performance of the end-to-end system.
  • Experience engaging with internal and external stakeholders to develop design and concept studies, capture requirements, define measures of performance, and develop a concept of operation.
  • Experience carrying out trade studies and feasibility analyses in an environment where all information may not be fully defined or available.
  • Experience with systems integration, including the development of interface control documentation
  • Experience working with internal and external stakeholders to carry out verification and validation activity, operational test and acceptance, and the transition and handover to operational teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex security topics and trade-offs to a non-specialist audience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience and understanding of one or more of: systems architecture, cloud computing, data-intensive applications, software engineering principles, or Integration and Test practices.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex technical issues in the operational environment, and feeding lessons learned back into development and process improvement.
  • Experience developing operational service management documentation and supporting the transition of a system from development to full-scale operation.
  • Experience with research and development, and the introduction of new technology into an existing operational system.
  • Ability to identify and manage technical risks and opportunities, to ensure they can me mitigated early and do not impact programme performance.

Location

  • The role is based from our London office where typical working days are Tuesday-Thursday, that being said we favour flexibility over fixed days so are happy to discuss what might work best for you
