The winners of the fourteenth annual GeekWire Awards were revealed at an in-person event on the evening of May 12, and First Mode was honored to accept the award for Innovation of the Year for our work in developing new technology that is already helping to decarbonize heavy industry.
The award is presented annually to a breakthrough that could change the way we live. The four other finalists in the category included electric aircraft maker Eviation, fusion energy startup Helion, space transportation company Spaceflight, and rain management technology company StormSensor. First Mode VP of Engineering Maggie Scholtz accepted the award on behalf of the team.

[First Mode] has developed a hydrogen fuel cell generator that can power massive trucks, retrofitting big vehicles to provide a clean source of energy. One of the first applications of the generator created “one of the biggest zero-emission vehicles on the planet,” which made its debut last week at a South African platinum mine.
